ADI Course / Costs

The LDC Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Course incorporates open learning, classroom and in-car training from our team of over 50 DVSA ORDIT qualified trainers covering virtually every DVSA ADI Part 3 test centre in the UK. This enables LDC to offer driving instructor training nationwide. To give you a quick overview of our state-of-the-art training centre, the resources we provide and the course options we offer Bob Morton our Training Director has produced the following information video.

Open learning

LDC is renowned for its open learning course resources (i.e. materials, online student learning Hub, Facebook group and YouTube Channel), our excellent central support team, our engaging workshops and our nationwide network of expert ORDIT qualified tutors. Unlike many courses which solely rely on in-car training for Part 2 and 3 LDC have always provided a comprehensive open learning course (both in hard copy and online formats) to accompany and integrate with the practical in-car training.

LDC’s unique online ADI student learning Hub

Local in-car training perfectly combined

This open learning is specifically designed to integrate with your practical training, up to 70 hours 1-to-1 (i.e. 1 student instructor to 1 trainer) on the full premium course (option 2 below). The open learning resources enable you to review the video tutorials as many times as you like, complete highly realistic theory/hazard perception tests and undertake complementary practice on your own or with a partner to help boost the value of the expertly delivered practical training provided by your own personal LDC ORDIT qualified tutor. To buy ad-hoc lessons to become a driving instructor with a good ORDIT qualified trainer would typically cost you around £35 per hour on a 1-to-1 basis (i.e. 1 student instructor to 1 trainer). Please bear this in mind if someone offers what appears to be 70 hours of ORDIT 1-to-1 training at below the £2,500 mark!

Classroom/Workshop training and ongoing support

Some aspects of training to be a driving instructor are better delivered in a classroom setting in the form of a reflective discussion or a workshop presentation.

You also get extensive support from our caring central support team based at our state-of-the-art training centre in Yorkshire via telephone, email, online or indeed face-to-face.

Training that won’t hold you back

Unlike most other training providers we do not use the Part 1 theory aspect of the training to deliberately hold up or indeed to prevent the delivery of your Part 2 and Part 3 practical in-car training, we start Part 2 and Part 3 training immediately. In truth the effort to pass Part 1 need only involve a few days of study not several months as many ‘so-called’ cheaper training providers would have you believe. LDC’s Part 1, 2 and 3 training courses are designed to run side by side as illustrated below:
ADIcoursePart1Part2Part3Unlike theory; skills take time to develop so the sooner you start to develop these practical skills the better. Unlike cheaper providers we don’t deliberately try to delay or avoid providing your practical in-car training for Part 2 and Part 3.

Essential on-the-job training experience

With LDC you also have the potential option to get 6 months on-the-job experience on a Trainee Licence on either a part time or full time basis prior to taking the Part 3 Test. On a Trainee Licence you can start to earn money as a trainee driving instructor and benefit from 6 months of doing the job for real. This will give you valuable experience to help you pass the new Part 3 test. We also have other ways to help you get this experience without giving up your current job or taking out a Trainee Licence.  The ability to gain this on-the-job experience should be an integral part of any course you decide to buy. So before you part with any money find out exactly how your training provider will get you this experience and what will it cost. To be allowed a trainee licence requires you to have 20 hours of practical training within the first 3 months of your licence. Most schools charge extra for this and don’t include it in the standard course fee.

Please note all our Trainee Licence positions are reserved for those people who train exclusively with us.

Tailor made ORDIT training

TailormadeThe training is delivered to you on a 1-to-1 basis in manageable bite sized chunks tailored to meet your precise learning needs and rate of progress. We don’t follow a one-size fits all shared production line approach to ADI training as favoured by some of our competitors (particularly the cheaper ones).

With LDC each ADI student follows their own personal development plan. In this way we can virtually assure exam success with pass rates far exceeding the norm for Parts 1, 2 and 3. The percentage of students who went on to pass Parts 1, 2 and 3 having completed their training with LDC last year is shown below:PassRates

Don’t be one of the 70% nationally who never make it – be one of the 91% who pass with LDC. If you are looking for the surest and speediest way to become qualified – look no further.

We have 50 ORDIT qualified tutors who provide training from over 60 locations around the UK covering most test centres where the ADI Part 3 qualifying exam is carried out.

Course fee reinburstment and cash back deals

There are many different discount and cash back deals offered by other driving schools. However, remember that with LDC you get your business start up benefits straight away when you qualify, join us and collect your LDC car – you do not have to commit to a costly and lengthy franchise contract (i.e. up to 2 years paying in excess of £20,000 just to get your original course fee back!) with LDC the franchise notice period is only one month (after the first three paid for months).

Rescue Driving Instructor Training

We also specialise in providing rescue driving instructor training to those who have fallen foul of one of the many poor quality driving instructor training providers around. Please give us a call and we can build a special course just for you. Usually we can provide a special rescue training package just for Part 2 and/or Part 3 including a business start up package should you want to join us as an LDC franchised driving school owner once qualified.

DVSA examination and registration fees

ADI examination fees are payable directly to the DVSA. The Part 1 test fee is £81, Part 2 test fee is £111 and Part 3 test fee is £111. Should you decide to go on a trainee license for 6 months prior to passing Part 3 you will be required to pay the DVSA £140 for this option. Finally once qualified the DVSA charge a registration fee of £300 which has to be paid every 4 years to remain on the DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) register.
