The Course

LDC can offer you three course options. No matter which option you choose you are guaranteed to receive top quality bespoke 1-to-1 training from your own personal LDC ORDIT qualified trainer to become a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor. You can train centrally here at our state-of-the-art training centre in Pontefract, West Yorkshire WF8 4PQ using our Residential course option or much more locally to you using either the Standard or Premium course options. If you are an advanced driver or have passed Part 2 or have previous instructor experience the Standard course with no reserve hours will probably be sufficient otherwise you may prefer the Premium option with up to 20 hours of additional 1-to-1 training in reserve. For those who prefer to avoid distractions and learn more intensively/consentrated we have the Residential course with less guided learning hours than the Premium course but more than the Standard course. The choice is yours.

Course overview

Each course option follows the same course structure shown below. Preparation for Part 1 and Part 2 would start at the same time, with Part 3 quickly following behind. Part 3 training is split into Initial Training to get you ready to be able to safely practice with real learners while the Ongoing Training refines your skills ready for the final Part 3 test. The open learning programme will direct you through each part of the course in small easy stages

This open learning course is supported with up to 70 hours 1-to-1 (i.e. 1 student instructor to 1 trainer) on the Premium course option, up to 50 hours 1-to-1 on the Standard course option or up to 10 days face-to-face training on the Residential course option. We are a nationwide company with over 50 DVSA Approved ORDIT qualified trainers providing training from over 60 locations around the UK covering most test centres where the ADI Part 3 qualifying exam is carried out.

Training that won’t hold you back

Unlike most other training providers we do not use the Part 1 theory aspect of the training to deliberately hold up or indeed prevent the delivery of your Part 2 and Part 3 practical in-car training. In truth the effort to pass Part 1 need only involve a few days of study not several months as is required with many ‘so-called’ cheaper training providers. LDC’s Part 1, 2 and 3 training courses are designed to run side by side as illustrated below:

ADIcoursePart1Part2Part3

Essential on-the-job training experience

With LDC you also have the potential option to get 6 months on-the-job experience on a Trainee Licence on either a part time or full time basis prior to taking the Part 3 Test. On a Trainee Licence you can start to earn money as a trainee driving instructor and benefit from 6 months of doing the job for real. This will give you valuable experience to help you pass the new Part 3 test.

No need to give up your current job or use a Trainee Licence to qualify

We also have other ways to help you get this experience without giving up your current job or taking out a Trainee Licence which we would be happy to discuss with you when we meet.

LDC Course Pass Rates

The percentage of students who went on to pass Parts 1, 2 and 3 having completed all their training with LDC last year is shown below:

Don’t be one of the 70% nationally who never make it (i.e. 7 out of 10 don’t succeed) – be one of the 89% who pass with LDC. If you are looking for the surest and speediest way to become qualified – look no further.

Course options and prices

Bob in the video below gives a brief overview of each of the three course options LDC can provide. No matter which option you choose you are guaranteed to receive top quality bespoke training and an opportunity to operate your own LDC driving school franchise. Up to 100% of your course fee in value terms is re-invested by us in your business start up therefore even the cheapest training course is more expensive than the one offered by LDC after taking these benefits into account.

Avoid cheaper courses and phoney driving schools

To buy ad-hoc lessons to become a driving instructor with a good ORDIT qualified trainer would typically cost you around £40 per hour on a 1-to-1 basis (i.e. 1 student instructor to 1 trainer). After considering this you need to ask yourself how could any decent training be less than £2,000? If you want to better understand why cheap training is always a false economy in regards to training to become a driving instructor visit our dedicated page on cheap driving instructor training. Some of these cheap training providers also operate phoney driving schools with lots of phoney gurarantees just to sell the training. Don’t be taken in by flashy websites with lots of dubious promises – companies who spend a fortune on SEO and Google to appear at the top of search engines. Thousands of people waste money on such companies each year – don’t be one them. Its easy to offer a driving instructor training course at half the price we charge if it is known that 90% will never get to the Part 2 or Part 3 stage and therefore take any costly 1-to-1 training.

Driving school course fee reimbursement, start up discounts and cash back deals

There are many different discount and cash back deals offered by other driving schools. However, remember that with LDC you get the majority of your joining incentives straight away when you join us – you do not have to commit to a costly and lengthy franchise contract (i.e. potentially up to 3 years paying in excess of £30,000 just to get your original course fee back!). With LDC the franchise notice period is only one month (after your first three paid for months on the franchise as a qualified driving instructor) with other driving schools it is much longer – usually 18 months or more.

Find out about the driving school franchise first

Before you buy a course to become a driving instructor you really need to understand how the franchise works, what it costs, how long you are committed to paying for it and what happens if you decide to leave? This is why we like to meet with your face to face to provide the information you really need to know. See the Franchise page for more details.

DVSA examination and registration fees

ADI examination fees are payable directly to the DVSA. The Part 1 test fee is £81, Part 2 test fee is £111 and Part 3 test fee is £111. Should you decide to go on a trainee license for 6 months prior to passing Part 3 you will be required to pay the DVSA £140 for this option. Finally once qualified the DVSA charge a registration fee of £300 which has to be paid every 4 years to remain on the DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) register.
